The Best Beauty Looks From The Soul Train Awards

When most people think of Soul Train, funky dance lines probably come to mind. But when I think of Soul Train, I think about the onscreen Black beauty. Growing up, while watching reruns every Saturday morning, I’d be captivated by all of the gigantic Afros, lush Jheri curls, and beaded braids that filled the screen. The show isn’t in syndication any longer, but the annual awards show does a great job of upholding that inspirational standard of glam each year.

The Soul Train Awards, which celebrates the best of Black entertainment, highlights stars that we might not normally see on other red carpets… and frankly, the variety is very refreshing. The beauty looks, as you can expect, are just as fabulous. Colorful locs, blunt bobs with laid edges, and fiery red dye jobs?! BRB, I’m hopping aboard.

See some of the best looks from last night’s ceremony, which airs on November 26 on BET, ahead.

Breakups might be hard, but you certainly don’t have to look the part. Tamar Braxton, who’s going through a divorce with her manager, Vince Herbert, swapped her blonde locks for a gorgeous. fiery red.

Ledesi’s dreadlocks are always styled to perfection — and her coiled coif is no exception.

Speaking of dope dreads… we’re loving Lalah Hathaway’s purple-dipped tips.

Almost three decades (!) after her first red carpet — we’ll let that factoid sink in for a moment —Braxton is still stealing the show with her on-point beauty look.

Erykah Badu is a woman of many hats — and we mean that literally, as she wore at least three throughout the program — but we’re more captivated by her colorful, two-toned shadow and matte baby pink lips.

Kehlani’s bob is so shiny and sleek we can’t look away, but please pay attention to the edges. Brush magic at work!

Melanie Fiona looks so different (and beautiful!) with her hair pulled back.
